A PRACTICAL PREPARATION PLAN
This plan gives you enough structure to prepare steadily while leaving room to adapt to your current experience and interview date.
Map IBM's Algorithms & Coding and HR & Behavioral expectations to the Data Scientist role.
Run timed drills that improve problem framing and experiment design.
Combine technical judgement, role depth, and behavioural stories in one realistic mock session.
Turn every attempt into one specific improvement before your next practice round.
INTERVIEW PROCESS
The number and order of rounds can vary by team, level, and location. Use this as a preparation map, not a guarantee.
How to prepare: A HackerRank-based test with 2 coding problems (around 55 minutes) plus a short English Language Assessment (around 10 questions, 10 minutes) testing grammar and comprehension for campus hires.
How to prepare: Covers OOP concepts (especially in Java: inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation, abstraction), DBMS basics (SQL queries, normalization, joins), resume projects in depth, and basic DSA theory such as linked lists vs arrays, sorting, and tree/graph fundamentals. OS and networking topics may appear less frequently.
How to prepare: Covers self-introduction, motivation for joining IBM, strengths and weaknesses, career goals, and situational questions using the STAR format. For some entry-level roles this may be combined with the technical round into a single session.
How to prepare: Document verification (ID proof, mark sheets, certificates) and offer rollout once all interview rounds are cleared.
PRACTISE THE QUESTIONS BEHIND THE LOOP
These examples test the kind of clarity a data scientist needs to show. Use them to practise your structure, not to memorise a script.
